October 8 - 14, 2007: SCCA National Championship Runoffs, Heartland Park Topeka Here are results for several Huffaker customer cars - in HP, GT1, and FP. Visit SCCA.ORG for more information.
Brian Linn during Qualifying. Huffaker race cars finished: 2, 4, & 16th. In 3rd, 9th and 11th were Huffaker parts customers. Ron Bartell, 3rd, has our complete front and rear suspension package, which qualifies it very close to a Huffaker car. In the best race of the day on Friday, Brian Linn started third, and took the lead on lap 3. He swapped positions numerous times with Tom Feller, leading seven times as they crossed the start-finish line. At the beginning of the last lap Linn was .152 seconds behind, but passed for the lead in turn 1. After going side-by-side with Feller down the back straight, Linn spun on his own in turn 10, loosing 12 seconds. He recovered to cross the line in second place, 23 seconds ahead of the third place finisher. Linn clocked fast lap of the race on lap 2. At right, a photo of Linn during qualifying. Loren Moore started in fifth position and took over fourth on lap two, running a strong consistent race to finish in fourth. In an eventful drive, Andrew Wright started in 16th, but dropped to 18th at the end of the first lap. He clawed his way up to 14th, spun on lap six, then worked his way back up to finish the race in 16th place. Back to Top
October 13: GT1 Back to Top Although the entire day was delayed courtesy of some severe weather in the morning and the first races of the day ran on rain tires, the GT-1 race - last race of the day - was graced with clear skies and sun. Bud Thurston started in 16th place and charged through the pack to eleventh place on lap 9, where he challenged number 05, Fershtand, for 10th for several laps. On lap 17 one of the front runners went out, moving Thurston into 10th place, where he finished the race.
October 14: F Production Back to Top Huffaker race cars finished: 2, 10, 12, 14, 22. Gerald Lamb (7th) is running an MGB, which may be one of our MGB's from the mid-seventies, now in FP.In possibly the best race of the weekend, Brian Linn, attempting to avenge his second-place finish in H production, hounded pole qualifier and defending champion Jesse Prather for 18 laps. Swapping places numerous times, sliding around corners two abreast and running bumper to bumper on the straights, Linn and Prather battled throughout the race. In the end, Prather prevailed, with Linn finishing second, less than a second behind. Noel Hayward got a great start, from his grid position of 15th, to cross the line the first time around in 14th. He quickly moved towards the front and slotted into 10th on lap four, which he then held until the end of the race. After not turning a wheel in qualifying, Chuck Horton started last on the grid, and climbed from 24th place to 13th by lap three. He held off Mark Weber until lap fifteen, when Weber got past him to take over that position. Horton finished 14th, ten places ahead of his starting position. Jamie Blust had the misfortune of making contact with the turn ten wall on lap four, ending his race.
